POSITION SUMMARY

  • The primary responsibility of the Pastor of Senior Adults is to minister to the needs of the Church’s senior adult members and non-members. The Minister is charged with the strategy, direction, development, implementation and oversight of the Senior Adult Ministry focused on identifying, understanding and addressing senior adult needs, challenges, and priorities. This duty occurs both within the Church as well as the community the Church serves.
  • The position is part-time and reports directly to the Senior Pastor. The Senior Adult Council reports directly to the Pastor of Senior Adults.

SPECIFIC DUTIES REQUIRED :

  • Lead the senior adult outreach ministry and visitation.
  • Provide leadership to and oversight of the Senior Adult Council.
  • Encourage, coordinate, promote, and participate in events for senior adults.
  • Serve as the Church’s official representative to associational and state programs for seniors.
  • Provide training for volunteers working in senior adult ministry.
  • Develop and nurture relationships with senior adult church members.
  • Develop an annual budget for senior adult ministry activities and operate within the approved budget.
  • Consult with the Senior Pastor, Church staff, and lay leaders to be sure activities follow the policies, procedures and ministry goals of the Church.
  • Annually update and evaluate all aspects of the senior adult ministry.
  • Set an example through presence and participation in worship services and other Church activities.
  • Assist in the visitation of the sick and bereaved as a part of the pastoral ministry of the Church.
  • Coordinate a plan for the delivery of items to senior adults who are unable to access those items without assistance. Items include, but are not limited to, Wednesday night meals and recorded worship services.
  • Identify for the Senior Pastor all senior adult needs requiring his attention.
  • Work with the Deacon Board to ensure the Deacon Ministry Teams concept addresses the needs of the Senior Adult membership.
  • Concentrate on outreach, evangelism, ministry, for the purpose of discipling people age 65 and older.
  • Coordinate a transportation system for senior adults who need assistance in attending church or going to doctors’ visits.
  • Serve as liaison to Brotherhood/Baptist Men in order to communicate special needs of senior adults such as handicap access ramps, yard work, home repairs, etc.
  • Perform other pastoral duties as determined and assigned by the Senior Pastor.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • The position requires a four year BS or BA degree from an accredited college or university. A Masters of Divinity (MDIV) degree is strongly preferred from a Christian accredited college, university, or seminary. Demonstrated progress towards attaining a MDIV will be considered.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • The position requires a minimum of twenty five (25) years experience in a ministerial or people oriented leadership role. Ten (10) of the twenty five (25) years experience must include both of the following:
    • a minimum of five (5) years experience in working with Senior Adults in roles where there has been frequent interaction AND
    • a minimum of five (5) years experience in a leadership role with minimum direct supervision. As a leader, the position requires experience in planning, organizing, staffing, budgeting, managing, and controlling activities. Experience in financial management is also required.
  • A successful candidate should be ordained or active in the ordination process.

SKILLS:

  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office suite products.
  • Ability to communicate persuasively and compassionately, both orally and in writing.

PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES:

  • The position requires an individual with a passion for senior adults and an understanding of life issues specific to senior adults. The Pastor must consistently present an outgoing and friendly personality and genuinely care for people. A loving, compassionate and patient heart is mandatory. The ability to work with others in a team oriented environment is very important in fulfilling the duties of the position. The Pastor of Senior Adults must be a Christian and reflect Christian principles in all behavior and actions.

WORK HOURS:

  • The position requires an average of 20 hours per week with spikes in the workload that occur due to special activities, trips, etc. Work will be performed both in and out of the office. The Pastor must demonstrate wise time management.

WORK LOCATION:

  • First Baptist Church of Clayton facility and the Clayton, NC community.

SALARY:

  • The annual salary of this position is $27,000 – $33,000 as determined by experience. This is an exempt position.

BENEFITS:

  • As a part-time position, no benefits are received by the Pastor other than reimbursement for all approved, work-related, personal expenses.
